Auditory Processing — Social Impact

Met two guys recently, both with some variation of an auditory processing issue. There is a bit of a social impact on the way I was interacting with them, and the way they interacted with others. There is a tendency to agree because you’re not sure exactly what was said at times. Actually, I noticed they were both very friendly, very engaging with their eyes. Conversation moved a bit slow, and there were definitely some missed meanings back and forth. Processing difficulties can have an impact on life outside of school. Whenever possible, early intervention is best. But you need to press schools and tutors to consider Auditory Processing as an issue in conjunction with anything else. It’s easy to miss, and most often can be helped through remediation. It’s always nice to know what’s being said, and have the ability to keep up with the speedy increase of modern English.
